COMPETITION RULES
You must be over 18 to enter. The entries must be in English, your own work and not a translation of another poet. Entries must not have been previously published or self-published in print or online, or have won another competition. Maximum length is 40 lines.
Do not put your address on any poem sheet, or make any other marks which could identify you.
Please enter the title of each poem on a separate A4 sheet, together with your name, address, email address and telephone number(s), along with how you heard about the competition.
Entries must be typed on white A4 paper, with one poem per sheet, and single-spaced.
You can enter as many poems as you wish, accompanied by the appropriate entry fee. Entries submitted posthumously will be ineligible.
Closing date: 16th August 2019.
RECEIPT OF ENTRIES
If you require confirmation of receipt of your entry please enclose a stamped addressed envelope marked ‘Settle Sessions Poetry ACKNOWLEDGEMENT’. Overseas entrants please enclose an international reply coupon rather than stamps.
ADJUDICATOR
Jane Routh has four published collections and several poetry pamphlets. She won the Poetry Book Society Book and Pamphlet competition with Circumnavigation , which was also shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection. Her second book Teach Yourself Mapmaking was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation. The title poem of The Gift of Boats won the Academi Cardiff International Poetry Competition, and in 2011 she won the Strokestown International Poetry Competition. Jane contributes articles and reviews to several journals and has also published a prose book Falling Into Place, on wildlife, weather and work in the rural area where she lives in North Lancashire. Her new collection (November 18th) is Listening to the Night.
Jane will read all entries. Her decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
Winners will be notified by 30th August 2019 The prizes will be awarded at the Settle Sessions Poetry Competition Evening on 20th September 2019. The winners will be invited to read their poems. Copyright remains with their authors, but we reserve the right to publish the winning the poems on our website page.
ENTRY FEES
£4 for one poem, £10 for three poems. Cheques should be made payable to Settle Sessions.
